Bio eggs from ecological farms only

Ecological farming is a farming system aimed at the sustainable production of plants and animals within a farm. It is based on natural (biological and mineral) and technically unprocessed resources. What also distinguishes ecological farms are their locations in the environment; hence the owners' care for the condition and biological diversity of the natural environment, which they achieve partly by maintenance and introduction of mid-field tree and shrub stands, and protection of the plant biodiversity of field baulks, meadows, pastures, streams and ponds, etc.

Ecological production prohibits the use of synthetic pesticides and artificial fertilisers, seed dressings, artificial concentrates, genetically modified organisms, industrial grade feeds and ionising radiation.

The rules of ecological animal production are:

  • protection of the animals’ well-being. This includes adequate space and access to yards and pastures;
  • animal feeding based on feeds from ecological production;
  • veterinary medicines and antibiotics, even in prevention, are prohibited.

Ecological food manufacturers and processors are obliged by law to label their products with certificates. According to the records for the end of 2008, certificates from 11 enterprises are used in Poland, including: Agrobiotest, Bioekspert, Biocert, Ekogwarancja PTRE, Cobico, PCBC and PNG.

Production of ecological food in the European Union is subjected to the laws of an EEC regulation, which is a legal act of the highest order (i.e. EEC Council Regulation no. 2092/91 of 01/01/1993 on organic production of agricultural products and indications referring thereto for agricultural products and foodstuffs, which is in force in EU member states). This Regulation has been in force in Poland since May 2004.

POLSKIE FERMY GRUPA PRODUCENTÓW is an enterprise which markets ecological (organic) products and as such it is subjected to annual inspection by a notified body, PNG, accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation under certificate no. AC 093. All BIO ORGANIC eggs originate from certified farms and tested suppliers. Our suppliers have achieved numerous awards.

There is no more perfect food material in nature than the egg. Eggs from happy hens which spend all their days in natural conditions and get to choose the food they want - are good eggs indeed!

The organic egg is the best source of amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins and mineral compounds. It also features components of biological value, such as anti-bacterial lysozyme, anti-inflammatory cystatin, immunity-promoting immunoglobulin, oxidation-inhibiting phosvitin and lecithin, which prevents cellular ageing. An additional marketing value of the product is the reduced cholesterol content in eggs from the green legged partridge hen, as confirmed by the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Balice.

Eggs from properly fed layers can function as a healing food, as well as having their traditional nutritional role.

The green legged partridge hen

The green legged partridge hen, or kura zielononóżka kuropatwiana in Polish, is a genuine Polish breed of laying hens featured on FAO's Red List of animals threatened with extinction. In its origins, the hen was bred in Polish Galicia. Since the restoration of Polish independence, this indigenous hen has risen to become a symbol of the Polish identity for rural areas. The share of the green legged partridge hen in the pure breed hen population has been on the decline since 1960, mainly due to their failure to thrive under large-population battery farming.

The green legged partridge hen, perfectly adapted to breeding in natural environmental conditions, is very resistant to low temperatures, extremely capable of searching for food and highly immune to diseases.

It is a primeval race which can completely utilise the natural conditions found in pastures. It is excellent for small flocks, and it requires insignificant financial expenditure for breeding. The green legged partridge hen is a good breed for small and medium farms, especially in areas of natural value, which give ideal conditions for high quality products. Flocks of this hen, with their specific colourful plumage, are kept on organic farms and agro-tourism farms, forming an additional attraction of the region.
